How to Build a Consistent Home Yoga Practice

स तु दीर्घकालनैरन्तर्यसत्कारासेवितो दृढभूमिः (Yoga Sutra 1.14) – When the practice is sustained over a long period of time, with unwavering commitment and dedication, it becomes firmly established.

The one word close to my heart from the three important words in this sutra is- ‘Consistency’ (Nairantarya) , other two being -Duration (Dīrghakāla), and Devotion (Satkāra). I picked this word very recently. I have been practicing yoga for a long time (दीर्धकाल) now with one of my best friends. My efforts were devotional (श्रद्धा के साथ) and my spiritual journey was soaring. Until, last month when my friend had to visit out of town to her ancestral place for some family rituals. It would have been easy to decide that her trip meant I could have a break from Yogabhyas! But instead, I decided to remain consistent, even though I was on my own. By choosing to be consistent lead me to learn about myself and I discovered how to build flexibility and freedom into consistency. It’s my pleasure to share with you my ideas on how to build a consistent home Yoga practice based on my yogic journey:

Create a yoga space in your home sweet home:

During numerous years of my personal practice and now three years of teaching yoga I endorse creating a yoga space in home. Create environment. There was a time in my Yoga journey, when I had a newborn baby and a busy schedule and so what I did was I left my yoga mat out on the floor and I chose almost always to wear yoga or a Leisure wear. This helped me just get on my Yoga mat easily.

Take small steps. Even if all you can manage is to sit in Padmasana or Vajrasana, 2 minutes of Kapalbhati or even child’s pose. It’s not all or nothing. Try to be in the present moment, focusing on the breath, turning the awareness inwards, and it constitutes as practice. So, if you can’t visit the studio? Practice in your own space.

Consistency comes with accountability:

I believe it’s important to create a personal accountability structure. Whether that’s a practice journal or you have a practice partner or you check in with an expert Yoga teacher or you have an app that tracks how long you sat on your mat. I suggest everyone learning Yoga in my class to share their TDL and actual practice details regularly. They say, this one answerability leads them to be consistent.

To be consistent, one has to be committed yet flexible.

We need commitment with flexibility. Things change. We go through emotional and situational challenges. We move homes. We upgrade in our career. The seasons change and our needs too. So, do we quit? No, we adjust. Commitment, devotional commitment is the key in this ever-changing life. No matter what, I am committed to sit on my Yoga mat daily. We have to go flexible in order to continue our flexibility enhancing practices.

I find inspiration through reading yogic texts. I prepare my body with healthy food. I am consistent because I am doing what I love to do. I love my home practice me time, I love Yoga.
How do you inspire yourself? Please let me know in the comments.

What is the answer and how to get there?

There was a time I was a complete People pleaser, and I believed that saying ‘Yes’ to everything will help me feel accepted, loved and liked. My biggest fear was ‘Fear of Rejection’ and that’s the reason I did everything I could to avoid conflicts and confrontations.

But, guess what… I was still rejected, insulted, being mocked at and was being talked about behind.

Initially I blamed others but in vain. After trying everything outside I Finally turned inside in search of love and peace. In my pursuit of happiness, I discovered – It was me who was weak. I did not feel worthy enough in myself, I did not value my worth and I was seeking outside approvals and validation to feel that worth.

I lacked self-Love. Craving for love I just wanted somebody else to come and make me feel loved, turning inside and knowing myself gave me knowledge, understanding and power to respect myself.

Love – Self-love is the answer – meditation is a way to it.

Don’t be afraid of losing people. Be afraid of losing yourself by trying to please everyone around you. Losing sight of who you are and what your core values are, is the worst thing you can do to yourself.

Besides, it is only through loving yourself first it is that you can possibly love others. Practice meditation and Be the love you are.

Are you ready to die? Are you ready for new life?

Say if you come to know that you are going to die in 5 hours, or 5 days. What will you think and how you would love to depart? Are you ready to die? Are you ready for new life? What will you do?

Make a list of all those things and execute them now. You are gonna die. Yes! To make a fresh start let go of the past you. To make rest of your life best of your life, to create a better version of yourself, to live the life you always wanted to live – let go of past and START A FRESH.

Letting go of the past is very important. Past experiences, a few bitter events which happened in past maybe we don’t remember them at this moment. Maybe we can’t recall the whole incident at this very moment but we carry that in our heart subtly. Deep in our mind they still haunt us.
These negative stories dilute the quality of how we think and hence dilute the quality of our life.

Apologize – No matter how smart, right and intelligent we think we are; we still make mistakes! All of us somewhere, sometime do something that hurts somebody. Knowingly, unknowingly if you have ever been to that route, today is a day you should ask for forgiveness. Call the person, meet him or write a letter. Just say sorry. If the person is not ready at this time to understand your “sorry” you confess it in front of your creator and promise that you wont ever repeat it again. You clear your backyard, they clean their heart or not is their choice, their journey. And, if the person is no more in the world. Sit back in silent with supreme soul (God) for few minutes, emerge that person in front of you through imagination and in presence of your creator ask for forgiveness.

Forgive and Get Free – Its easy to say sorry but is it equally easy to understand their sorry? And, what if they are not even feeling or saying sorry? Will they ever realize what they have done to you if you simply forgive? Ask me. I have been through all these questions and now understand. Forgiving is not about them; it is not for them; it is for me. I forgive, because I deserve peace and not because they deserve it. Besides, who am I to judge who deserves what? I can tell you one thing, to get free, you must forgive.

But I am unable to forget what they did.
But The bad they did to me was too big to forgive.
But they will hurt me again if I forgive them.
They are not sorry, what is benefit of forgiving.
They have always taken me for granted.
It is impossible to forgive and forget. Easier said than done.
They never respect me. Why should I forgive?
Still have these and many more questions and doubt around forgiveness? Contact me.
I had been through the very rough road and can help you find all your answers to understand the essence of forgiveness.
It is very very important before you start new life.

Let go of bitter past – If your hands are full of old toys you can’t hold any new toy. Often, we feel what happened with us in past is truth, it had happened to us and so we have all the rights to moan about it forever. We use to revise the incident time and again in our mind and relive the pain again and again, deepening it further. Past is gone, its nowhere now. What your mind hold is only =what your mind creates (thoughts) now. It is our choice, we can choose Power Prayer, Forgive and Get Free, Learn Meditation or hold onto the bitterness.

Lets choose new life, lets choose better way of living, lets choose new way of thinking Learn Meditation. Meditation helps us a lot in gaining power to face our past karmas and their consequences. Meditation helps us a lot in gaining power to refresh and restart.

Today tell yourself, “Thank you past! Welcome new Life!”.

Thank you past! Welcome new Life!

From working 9 hrs a day as a professional Chartered Accountant, in a top niche MNC to a 24 hours highly respectful job of a mother, I have come a long way!

When I walked into 2018, I was mother of four months old and on a career break. Today when my little one is 40 months (Jan 2021) and I am more mature mother, if I compare myself from what I was before sometime back, I realize how long a way I have walked. Last one year (or so) in itself was a long ‘transformational’ journey. Thanks to my husband’s support I was into a continuous education plan and today I am a known Life Coach, hold a diploma in HRM, a PG Dip in business management and a Pranic healer besides being CA.

Starting a new career, trying something different from people around and growing up in your new chosen field is throbbing for the callous lessons it offers. But doing what you always wanted to do feel nice. From knowing my purpose to challenging myself to pursue it, and taking a plunge out of my comfort zone to actually put my work out there being vulnerable, I have walked a long way and have evolved into a stronger, wiser woman.
From a happy go lucky free bird to a responsible mother. From a pampered wife to a working mom. From expecting good behaviour from everyone to a person who wants to take responsibility of her own awakening I have challenged myself and evolved a lot.

I was insulted, respected, accepted, rejected, doubted, believed, loathed and loved. I lost, I achieved, I fell, I bounced back, I did things that felt right to me. A daughter, a daughter in law, a wife and a Mom… and above all I am me! Far from being perfect, learning something new every day, a fun-loving child at heart who believes in miracles!

I am a blissful soul and I sleep deep and peace each night.

During my journey, I have received some lovely emails, happy messages and praising feedback from smiling souls. I treasure them all close to my heart. I want to take a moment to deeply thank you all my friends, family, clients & well-wishers and honour you for being part of my journey so far and for your devotion to your journey to improve and evolve.
